Hipertensión arterial en la mujer

La enfermedad cardiovascular es uno de los problemas de salud más importantes en las mujeres en todo el mundo y la hipertensión arterial (HTA) se encuentra entre los principales factores de riesgo para desarrollar esta enfermedad (Hage FG, et al. 2013), representando 1 de cada 5 muertes de mujeres en los Estados Unidos (Wenger NK, et al. 2018). Sin embargo, su tratamiento y control no es óptimo en las mujeres, por lo que la hipertensión es probablemente el factor de riesgo cardiovascular más descuidado.
Los datos del Instituto Nacional de Estadística, referidos al año 2018 (Instituto Nacional de Estadística, 2019) muestran que la enfermedad cardiovascular seguía siendo la 1ª causa de muerte en España, 230,5 muertes por cada 100.000 habitantes; Un 6% más de mujeres mueren cada año que los hombres por enfermedades cardiovasculares. En Castilla y León el número de defunciones fue de 199,8 por cada 100.000 habitantes.
