Ten Years at the Bellows: Educational and Outreach Practices in Experimental Archaeometallurgy

This paper presents a ten-year overview of experimental archaeometallurgy activities developed in both academic and social contexts. The main objective is to analyse their educational and outreach potential, with particular attention to the learning processes generated through hands-on experimentation and active participation.
The study adopts a qualitative approach, based on long-term participant observation and the systematic analysis of accumulated experience in activities involving participants with different profiles, including children, non-specialist participants, and specialised groups. The paper examines how these practices have been adapted to diverse contexts, as well as their capacity to foster interaction, engagement, and knowledge transmission.
The results highlight the value of experimental archaeometallurgy as a tool for the socialisation of archaeological knowledge and experiential learning. These practices not only facilitate the understanding of complex technological processes but also promote meaningful interactions between research and society, opening new perspectives for the development of heritage-related educational and outreach activities.
