Blessed those who die as «little angels (anjinhos)»: Baptism and infant mortality in Portugal (16th-18th centuries)

This study tries to investigate how the first sacrament was thought to influence the spiritual destiny of the baptised children and how it sealed the unhappy destiny of those who were not. I will focus on the children which were baptized or not describing the ritual of mourning and the place of rest in Portugal during the modern ages.
