Discursive Varieties in the Novels of Miguel Delibes (1920-2010). An analysis of El disputado voto del señor Cayo (1978)

This article seeks to analyze discursive varieties in novels by Miguel Delibes, insisting in El disputado voto del señor Cayo written in a context of electoral campaign. These varieties are explained by the influence of space on the linguistic behaviour of the characters. If, in the countryside, language is the expression of wisdom and pragmatism; in the city, it makes it possible to expose the violent and hollow attitude of the urban dwellers, especially young people. It is also a question of deciphering the political discourse, which, in addition to seducing the voters, is a perfect means of denigrating the opponent.
