In 1953, Spain and the United States of America signed the Pact of Madrid, an agreement that resulted in several Renfe’s committees of directors and technicians carrying out study travels to the United States of America during the 1950s. These travels were an additional contribution to the financing received by Renfe thanks to the Pact, a matter that is addressed in the first part of this paper. The second part analyses that model of knowledge transfer, that is, how the travels were conducted, what subjects were examined in situ or what consequences they had for the evolution of Renfe.
