Abstract

Through an amount of inedit data, guarded by Rubió Tudurí Foundation (Menorca), this article’s aim is to rebuild the history of an only call literary award, the Menorca Prize of novel, granted to Carmen Laforet for La mujer nueva. A high economic endowment (200.000 pesetas), due to the patron Fernando Rubió, put the writer’s name and also Balearic island’s one on the front page of national newspapers and magazines. Consequently, the Menorca Prize of novel was a real precedent of literary awards as tourism promotion strategies.
