Abstract

By examining and comparing two recent novels, Maja Haderlap‘s Engel des Vergessens and Sandra Cisneros‘ Caramelo or puro cuento, this investigations explores the way both texts rewrite national history by recovering and reorganizing the family memories of the two narrators. This process takes place in a transnational context, which suspends the boundaries between neighbour countries. In this sense, the paper discusses the rewriting of national memory from the perspective of some particular actants, who are in continuous crossing of borders.
