Author Guidelines

Castilla. Estudios de Literatura is an annual publication.

The journal does not apply any cost to authors for publishing articles or reviews.

Submitters of peer-reviewed articles agree to collaborate in the peer-review process for other articles submitted to the journal.

The deadline for submitting articles will remain open for an annual period of fifteen days, between January 15 and 17 of each year. Please do not send articles outside this period.

Reviews can be submitted between January 15 and March 31 of each year. Please do not submit reviews after this time. The direction of the magazine will make a selection of the reviews received.

Only one item can be sent to each volume. If an author publishes an article in a certain volume, he can not publish another article in the following four numbers, and those who have not previously published in the journal will have priority. The articles will only be published in the volume of the same year in which they are sent to the journal, and never in a later volume. No article can be evaluated more than once.

The authors of articles, when submitting the article electronically, must include in the corresponding box a brief biographical summary (of about 200 words) containing the most outstanding data of their academic career and their current professional category.

In the event that the articles are signed by more than one person, their authors must inform about the criteria chosen regarding the order of signature and about the specific contribution made by each participant. That information should be in a footnote at the beginning of the article. To guarantee anonymity in the evaluation, it must be included after the article has passed the evaluation.

Should the submitted manuscript constitute the outcome of an investigation conducted within a research project or an investigation financially supported by a funding agency, this must be specified during the submission process (within the metadata field corresponding to funding agencies). Subsequently, this information shall be incorporated into a footnote at the commencement of the article, following its successful completion of the peer-review process.

The reviews will be about books published in the last three years. A person cannot publish more than one review, nor an article and a review, in the same volume.

Articles and review articles must be submitted in Word. Graphic contents and accompanying illustrations should be inserted in the corresponding place in the text. The author is responsible for the authorship and originality of the work submitted, confirming publishing rights of any images included.

To submit a paper, you must previously register with the journal, indicating your data and your ORCID identification number (obtained by registering at http://orcid.org). Once registered with the journal, you can click the "Submit an Article" tab in the right column of the journal's web page and start submitting your work (either an article or a review). The system will guide you to complete the shipment. To submit an article, in the "Step 3. Introduction of submission metadata", do not forget to indicate the author's name and your address of email, and include the title of the article, your keywords and abstracts in Spanish and English. To do this, select the "Spanish" language in the box that appears at the top of the page and include the data in Spanish; then, select the English language in the same box and enter data in English. You must also fill in the sections "Affiliation" (indicating the name of your institution) and "Bio Statement" (including a brief note of about 200 words stating the most outstanding data of your academic career and your professional category current). If the article has been financed by a support agency, it must be indicated in the corresponding section.

FORMAT AND GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

ARTICLES

Articles, which must be original and unpublished, may be written in Spanish or English, and will have a maximum of thirty pages after adjusting to the template format that can be downloaded at the following link:: formato de artículos. We ask the authors to copy the parts of the article and paste them on top of the corresponding parts of the template, maintaining the format of the template in all its aspects (logos, title, summaries and data, sizes and fonts, headings, paragraphs, quotes bleeds, footnotes, final bibliography, headers and footers and page numbers).

In the case of articles from doctoral theses or similar academic works published in repositories, it will be indicated when sending the article, in the "Comments for the editor" section, that it derives from a doctoral thesis or from an academic work available in internet, including the link that gives access to the source text. After passing the anonymous evaluation process, this information will be included in a footnote at the beginning of the article. The degree of re-elaboration of the article with respect to the original text will be assessed.

As the articles will be sent to referees, no information regarding the author should be present in the articles. In order to give the publication wider readership, the following information should also be sent: an abstract (in Spanish and English) of about ten lines in length; the title of the article (in Spanish and English), and five key words in both Spanish and English.

It is advisable to adjust the articles to the following scheme:

Introduction: section intended to indicate the object of study, describe the problem to be solved, the method of analysis and the sources used.

Development: central section of the article that should be used to analyze the object of study. Authors may use as many headings or paragraphs as they deem convenient.

Conclusions: in this section, it is necessary to specify in a systematic and precise way the results of the research, highlighting the original contributions offered by the article and the new lines of research that it opens.

QUOTATIONS

Short quotations (maximum three lines) will be included in the body of the text in quotation marks (" "). Guillemets (« ») should be used for embedded quotations. Longer quotations (more than three lines) will be indented and single-spaced, using an 11-point font, without quotation marks.

FOOTNOTES

Reference marks for footnotes will be placed after the puntuation marks. Example:

A 10-point font will be used for footnotes.

BIBLIOGRAPHICAL CITATIONS

In order for the article to be accepted and evaluated, the way of citing the bibliography must necessarily comply with the rules indicated below.

Bibliographic citations, both in the body of the text and in the footnotes, will follow the International Harvard standard, indicating the author's last name in parentheses followed by a comma, the year of publication followed by a comma and the abbreviation "p." followed by the page number (if it is a single page) or "pp." followed by page numbers separated by a hyphen (if multiple pages). Examples:

"The The latest researches (Martínez, 2023, p. 15) indicate that...".

"The latest researches (Martínez, 2023, pp. 15-30) indicate that...".

When several studies by the same author have been published in the same year, they will be identified by a small-case letter in alphabetical order following the year: (Bloom, 1994a; Bloom, 1994b...).

If the author's name is part of the sentence, just include the date (and, if applicable, the page or pages) in parentheses. Example: "Segarra (1996, p. 25) holds a similar opinion on the matter".

If a paper has between one and three authors, all are included. If there are two, they are separated by an "and"; if there are three, the first two are separated by a comma and the second and third by an "and". Example: "The analyzes carried out in this regard (Barbastro, Pascual and Segura, 2021) indicate that...".

When a work has more than three authors, the last name of the first must be cited followed by “et al.”. Example: "The latest studies (Fernández et al., 2018) show that..." Other types of references should not be used, such as cit., op. cit., id., ibidem…

WORKS THAT HAVE DOI (DIGITAL OBJECT IDENTIFIER):

It is necessary to indicate the DOI in all works that have it and that are available in open and free access (do not include the DOI if you link to a work for which you have to pay to download it). To check which of the cited works have DOI you can use the Simple Text Query tool (http://www.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery/), following these steps:

1) Register on the Simple Text Query portal (http://www.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery/): you must enter an email address and click on "Submit". Shortly afterwards an email will be received at the address provided with a link, in which you have to click to register.

2) Once you have registered, visit the Simple Text Query main page (http://www.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery/), enter your email address and paste all the bibliographic listing of your work into the box. The texts must have a recognized format, must be ordered alphabetically and separated from each other by a blank line. Then click on "Submit", and, in one or two minutes, the system will indicate, highlighting them, which texts have DOI.

* * *

When submitting an article, it is recommended to include in the "References" box a copy of the list of bibliographical works cited at the end of the article. To do this, you can copy the list of references of the original document of the article and paste it into a text document (Word, etc.), treating the text of the following recommended way:

— Each reference must be separated from the previous with a blank line.

— DO NOT use labels <br>, <br/> <br /> <p>.

— Do not apply any style because when you paste the text in the field references does not keep it. DO NOT use HTML tags (such as bold <b> italic <i> or <em> indexes , etc.).

— No classification titles should be included whit the references (eg: consulted primary source, secondary source, viewed files, etc). Leave only the list of references.

— The names of the authors should not be omitted if repeated in different appointments. They must be entered in each of the appointments.

Finally, the text must be pasted in the "References" box.

REVIEWS

Reviews may be written in Spanish or in English and will have a maximum of four pages after conforming to the following format: formato de reseñas. We ask the authors to copy the parts of the review and paste them on top of the corresponding parts of the template, maintaining the format of the template in all its aspects (logos, title, sizes and fonts, paragraphs, headers and footers and page numbers).

 ARTICLES EVALUATION AND EDITORIAL PROCESS

Papers that do not comply with the "Format and Editorial Rules" and the way of citing the bibliography that are indicated on this same web page will not be accepted or evaluated.

The recived works will be analyzed with an plagiarism prevention tool. The Editor Team of the journal may reject the works if it considers that they present plagiarism or a high number of coincidences with other texts.

If artificial intelligence has been used to prepare the article, it is necessary to indicate how and for what purpose it was employed, in accordance with the provisions set out in the section "Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Editorial Process" under "About the Journal."

In order to maintain anonymity, authors are requested to refrain from referring to themselves in the first person, and that do not include data in the article that allow your identification (if the article is evaluated positively, personal data may be added before publication).

Articles which comply with all the requisites will be subject to a double process of evaluation:

Initially, the members of the Management Team and the Editorial Board will screen the received submissions., assessing whether each article meets the following requirements: 1. The article is strictly adjusted to the themes of the journal (Spanish Literature, Hispanic American Literature, Theory of Literature, Literary Criticism and Comparative Literature); 2. The wording and the idiomatic uses are correct; 3. The bibliography is cited consistently and conforms to the International Harvard standard, and the article has sufficient bibliographic support; 4. The article can be evaluated anonymously, and 5. The article reaches the required level to academic articles, and is not an essay or literary article, nor a synthesis of the state of the matter it deals with, but constitutes a contribution of interest. In this first phase, the articles can be evaluated as follows: "The article passes the first selection" / "The article passes the first selection if modifications are made" / "The article does not pass the first selection". If the evaluation is "The article passes the first selection if modifications are made", the authors will have a maximum period of one month to make the suggested modifications.

In a second moment, articles that have passed the first selection will be submitted to two experts in the field, not belonging to the journal's publishing institution, for a blind examination. The external reviewers will complete an evaluation form in which they will qualify (according to the scale N = nothing / P = little / S = sufficient / B = enough / M = much) the following aspects of the article: 1. Originality and scientific interest; 2. Depth and relevance; 3. Methodology; 4. Structure and clarity and 5. Bibliography. The external reviewers will make one or more of the following recommendations on the article: “Publishable” / “Publishable with content modifications” / “Publishable with formal or bibliographic modifications” / “Not publishable”. Likewise, external reviewers may make the indications, suggestions or corrections they deem appropriate.

Should the evaluations be contradictory, the Management Team would request a third evaluation. Articles with two positive reports will be sent to the authors to make the corrections suggested by the evaluators. The authors have a maximum period of one month to return the corrected articles, together with a report indicating the changes made based on any suggestions made in the evaluation reports. After evaluating this report and any changes made to the article, a final decision will be made about its publication, which will be communicated to the author. The decision of the Editorial Board is final.

The journal will try to expedite the evaluation process. The average time elapsed between the submission of an article or review to the journal and its publication after passing the evaluation process is usually about six months. Authors are requested not to send their work to another journal until the result of the evaluation is known.
