The Internet as a Plot in the Spanish Novel: its Potential as Metanarrative and Epistemic Metaphor
Abstract
Since 1995, the Internet has became the main channel for information and communication. It is also the support or object of artistic disciplines. But not in the novel, even as an argument. However, in Spain, last years, Olmos, Gopegui, Etxebarria, Fernández Mallo, Mora and Ferré (and others) have decided not to ignore the Internet in their novels. They introduced into the plot, as a reference of the second degree (Internet is already a first codification of reality). Also as an analogy: 1/ in the language, 2/ in the structure of the novel, and 3/ to approach reality from another angle, what makes the novel an exponent in the scientific debate about the epistemological impact of technology.
