«The Romance of the Three Kingdoms»: A Chinese classical novel and its rhetorical-cultural world

The objective of this work is to analyze The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a Chinese historical novel, from the perspective of Cultural Rhetoric. The concepts of interdiscursivity, rhetorical-cultural communicative code, metaphorical engine and translational engine, metaphor and analogy are used to explore the popularity and impact of this classical work in Chinese society, both in the cultural manifestations, in the language —especially in the field of phraseology—, as in everyday life and in ways of thinking. Thanks to these characteristics, The Romance of the Three Kingdoms has become one of the most influential books, not only in China, but also in other Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, Vietnam, etc.
