Abstract

By the end of the Baroque, official circles considered 00.the Conquest of New Spain had not been correctly told. Antonio Solis y Rivadeneira, a writer and cleric, was commissioned to do the official history, first published in Madrid, 1684, known as Historia de la conquista de México. This article explores how the history belongs to demonstrative gender, according to classical Greco-Roman classification,  with the aims and proposed modes recommended by Luis de Granada in the late sixteenth. It will be possible to see how Solís’ work reveals it is a panegyric to Hernán Cortés accompanied with both amendments and disrepute of  the post mortem testimonial story published in 1632, by Bernal Diaz del Castillo.
