Abstract

Each catastrophic event and the following reconstruction are a sort of synthesis of population desires, in a precise historical moment, about the lifestyle to keep or to reach, the production system, the urban model and the way of housing related to this aspiration.
This paper contains a reconnaissance of the principal post-seismic reconstruction events in Italy since the end of Second World War until today. It’s possible, by reading the changes of viewpoints along the following decades, to appreciate the cultural modifications which have intervened in Italy in the last sixty years, as well as the change of values attributed to the historical city, the way in which these changes have modified the city and the territorial shapes.
The aim of this paper is, therefore, to offer a useful piece for the recognition of Urban History of the XXth Century.
