The city of Guayaquil, main port of Ecuador, is one of the most valuable urban experiences, at least inside the Latin American context. The most peculiar is that this city have had abrupt and accelerated changes. First by multiple fires and sackings about more than a hundred years ago, and later by inefficient and indifferent municipal administrations, that taked Guayaquil to a state of chaos and alarming deterioration. The city began to leave this situation less than twelve years ago. To the present, it has been almost totally back. This article is an analysis of that development, with an urban evolution that today intensifies and is being constituted in a model of integral and exceptional urban development.
