The industrial estates have recently modified their traditional urban functionality linked mainly to production. Thus, they have become spaces of economic activity in which manufacturing is losing weight in favour of other uses (mainly commercial and logistics). These areas have been functionally zoned and located in the peripheries, assuming a strategic value in urban structures. This contribution raises a reflection about the meaning of these spaces in the Spanish middle cities, in which the influence of these areas in the urban form is stated with greater intensity.
