Abstract

This article discusses the use of thermal imaging and land use maps to combat heat islands and promote a sustainable urban environment in small cities, using São Francisco do Sul, Brazil, as a case study. The results show heating differences in different parts of the city, underlining the need to consider climate in urban planning to promote sustainability and minimize thermal discomfort. The study suggests that these principles can guide environmental licensing to reduce impermeable areas and prevent the emergence of heat islands.
