Redesigning the Transitory: New Strategies for Transitional Settlement Implementation

This article analyzes the implementation of Emergency Transitional Neighborhoods in Chile, highlighting the challenges in their planning and design. Deficiencies in design, location and institutional support are identified, which have led to the prolonged permanence of these settlements and urban fragmentation. Based on the review of international standards and field studies in Chile, new strategies are proposed to improve the design of settlements. The need for clear policies and greater interinstitutional coordination to ensure dignified and sustainable solutions for communities affected by disasters is emphasized.
