The structural change in Western economies/societies, due to globalisation, and the still ongoing European construction have caused significant spatial transformations as well as relevant shifts in interpreting regional and urban spaces. Such shifts are connected to the concepts of “networking”, “governance”, and “rescaling”, and seem to underline the need of rethinking certain traditional interpretative categories such as “centrality” and “polycentrism”. The article is aimed at highlight planning implications at both territorial and urban level.
