City and active urbanism. Strategies and implications in the design of healthy public space

The aim of this paper is to analyse the factors of urban planning and design that favours the active city, in relation to the influence of the design of public space on the physical activity of citizens. Through the study of national and international experiences, various strategies structured in six categories are presented: active planning, active public space, active mobility, active space design, active green and active Smart City. It is concluded that active urban planning requires a commitment from the administrations to sport and non-motorized mobility, flexible urban spaces and the promotion of citizen participation.
