Abstract

The construction in height that began at the end of the 19th century in the United States never became as widespread in the old continent. Despite this, A Coruña is located on the list of pioneering Spanish cities that have opted for this growth model, initiated in the twenties by the Banco Pastor building. After a speculative period, in which the densification of a municipality exhausted in itself was used as an argument to build in height, the 1967 Master Plan gives naturalization papers to vertical architecture through a specific ordinance with which numerous high-rise buildings will be projected, that are today a fundamental part of the built heritage of the city.
