Abstract

The article presents part of a doctoral research in the life history of Maria Antònia Canals, a mathematician, teacher, teacher trainer and researcher in the teaching of mathematics in Early Childhood and Primary Education. Her formative process in Didactics of Mathematics and her position in this scientific field are studied. Didactics of Mathematics field is consolidated in the university environment, especially dedicated to the academic career of teachers, while the pedagogical renewal movements are dedicated to the improvement of school education. The case of M. A. Canals serves to analyze the role of Didactics of Mathematics and its current limitations.
