Narrative of a problem-solving workshop with children aged 4 and 5 years. The workshop starts reading a story on which the problem is based. Then we work individually inventing modeling strategies, using manipulatives. Sharing solutions and strategies, complex at this age, is the final stage of the workshop. We show how this type of mathematical activity is a developmentally appropriate practice for prekindergarten children, and promotes mathematization processes that develop basic math competences for preschool.
