This paper analyzes two treatises that share title and deal with the obligations that bishops should have. Pastor bonus, of Juan Maldonado, written in 1529, and Idea de El buen pastor, of Francisco Núñez de Cepeda, written in 1682. Through the comparative method and content analysis, it is intended to study whether the ideal bishop model underwent any transformation after the closure of the Council of Trent.
