Abstract

This paper studies the environmental terminology regarding air pollution on the Air Pollution subcorpus. By means of a lexical-conceptual analysis, the phenomenon is studied under the Frame-Based Terminology approach. Based on this analysis, the most relevant concepts were identified, the air pollution event was created, and knowledge was represented by means of encyclopaedic definitions based on the definitional model proposed for the lay users of EcoLexicon. The illustrated methodology allows for the elaboration of systematic and coherent definitions with a relational structure for concepts belonging to specific semantic categories. This is the case of the conceptual hierarchy of waste-management, one of the causes of air pollution.
