Author Guidelines

The International Journal HERMĒNEUS. JOURNAL ON TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING, a refereed publication from the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation at the University of Valladolid in Soria, is calling for contributors for articles, short translations and reviews in the field of Translation and Interpreting.

The Hermēneus Project, which includes the Journal Hermēneus, the monograph Vertere and a collection of hitherto unknown translations called Disbabelia, is a long-running and prestigious publication, as it is included in different databases, such as Web of Science (WOS), Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) / Scopus / EBSCO Humanities Source / EBSCO Fuente Académica Premier / Linguistics Abstracts (LABS) / Linguistics and Language Behaviour Abstracts (CSA) / MLA, Modern Language Association Database / British Humanities Index (BHI) de ProQuest / FRANCIS / PASCAL / Linguistics Bibliography (BRILL) / Translation Studies Abstracts (St. Jerome: Manchester) / Ulrichs Web / GALE CENGAGE Learning, Informe Académico / Cabell's Directory of Publishing Opportunities / DIALNETplus / BITRA (Bibliografía de Interpretación y Traducción, Universidad de Alicante) / A Bibliography of Literary Theory, Criticism, and Philology (Universidad de Zaragoza) / LATINDEX.

WORKS SUBMISSION

Hermēneus. Revista de Traducción e Interpretación is an annual publication. The journal not apply any fee to authors for publishing articles or reviews. The deadline for sending articles and reviews to each volume opens every January (all necessasry information will be indicated in the section "Announcements"). Normally, the same author will not publish two articles in consecutive volumes, or more than one review in the same volume.

Articles and review articles must be submitted in Word. Graphic contents and accompanying illustrations should be inserted in the corresponding place in the text. The author is responsible for the authorship and originality of the work submitted, confirming publishing rights of any images included.

To submit an article, in the «Step 3. Introduction of submission metadata», do not forget to indicate the author's name and your address of email, and include the title of the article, your keywords and abstracts in Spanish and English. To do this, select the "Spanish" language in the box that appears at the top of the page and include the data in Spanish; then, select the English language in the same box and enter data in English. You must also fill the box "Affliation", indicating the name and the mailing address of your institution and your academic category, as well as your ORCID identification number (if available).

In the event that the articles are signed by more than one person, their authors must inform about the criteria chosen regarding the order of signature and about the specific contribution made by each participant. That information should be in a footnote at the beginning of the article. To guarantee anonymity in the evaluation, it must be included after the article has passed the evaluation.

Should the submitted manuscript constitute the outcome of an investigation conducted within a research project or an investigation financially supported by a funding agency, this must be specified during the submission process (within the metadata field corresponding to funding agencies). Subsequently, this information shall be incorporated into a footnote at the commencement of the article, following its successful completion of the peer-review process.

FORMAT AND GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

NOTICE: The following rules are based on APA (7th), but they have some modifications that respond to the requirements of Ediciones de Universidad de Valladolid (EdUVa) and the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT).

ARTICLES

The articles, which must be unpublished originals, must be adapted to the format that can be downloaded by clicking on the following link: formato de artículos (article template).

As articles are peer-reviewed, no author information should be included in them. To increase the dissemination of the publication, the following sections should be included in both Spanish and English, as shown in the template: the title, an abstract of about ten lines in length and five key words.

It is advisable to adjust the articles to the following scheme:

— Introduction: section intended to indicate the object of study, describe the problem to be solved, the method of analysis and the sources used.
— Development: central section of the article that should be used to analyze the object of study. Authors may use as many headings or paragraphs as they deem convenient.
— Conclusions: in this section, it is necessary to specify in a systematic and precise way the results of the research, highlighting the original contributions offered by the article and the new lines of research that it opens.

QUOTATIONS

Short quotations (up to forty words in length) will be included in the body of the text in guillemets (« »). Quotation marks (" "). Guillemets should be used for embedded quotations. Longer quotations (more than forty words in length) will be indented and single-spaced, using an 11-point font, without quotation marks.

FOOTNOTES

Reference marks for footnotes will be placed before the punctuation marks.

Example:

A continuación aparece en el texto una cita de Plinio: "Y a este propósito dice Plinio que no hay libro, por malo que sea, que no tenga alguna cosa buena"¹, pero no es la fuente directa el propio Plinio², sino un espléndido prosista: Gabriel Alonso de Herrera. En 1513, en Alcalá de Henares, se imprime por primera vez su Obra de agricultura, creación pionera y maravilla de exactitud léxica³.

A 10-point font and single-spaced will be used for footnotes.

BIBLIOGRAPHICAL CITATIONS

Bibliographical citations, both in the body of the text and in footnotes, should follow the parenthesis model: (Author's surname, year, p./pp.). For example: (Bloom, 1994, p. 25).

When several studies by the same author have been published in the same year, they will be identified by a small-case letter in alphabetical order following the year: (Bloom, 1994a; Bloom, 1994b...).

Latin abbreviations such as cit., et al., op. cit., idem, id., ibidem, ibid., etc. can be used.

BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REFERENCES

The reference bibliography will appear at the end of the article following the centered title Bibliographical references. The entries will be listed in alphabetical order and will use a hanging indent. They should adapt to the following examples:

Books:

Surname/s, Name (year). Title of the book in italics. Publisher.

Example:

Bajtin, Mijail (1989). Teoría y estética de la novela. Taurus.

In the case of more than one author (up to seven authors), the book will be cited thus:

Surname/s, Name and Surname/s, Name (year). Title of the book in italics. Publisher.

In the case of articles written in other languages, foreign references may include the conjunction of the corresponding language. For example, and, in the case of the English language (the & symbol should be avoided).

Example:

Tovar Llorente, Antonio y Pinta Llorente, Miguel (de la) (1941). Procesos inquisitoriales contra Francisco Sánchez de las Brozas. Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas.

If there are more than seven authors, the Latin abbreviation et al. should be placed after the seventh author (in italics).

Online books:

Surname/s, Name (year). Title of the book. Publisher. DOI or URL

Note that the seventh edition of the APA Style no longer requires "retrieved from" when there is no date of consultation.

Edition of books:

Surname/s, Name (Ed.) (year). Title of the book in italics. Publisher.

Surname/s, Name and Surname/s, Name (Eds.) (year). Title of the book in italics. Publisher.

In the case of critical editions of other author’s books:

Surname/s, Author's name (year). Title of the book in italics. Ed. Editor’s Name and Surname/s. Publisher.

Book chapters and encyclopaedia entries in works with publisher(s), multi-volume works:

In the case of a chapter citation or entry in a critical edition, encyclopaedia or collective work with editor/s:

Surname/s, Name (year). Title of the chapter. In Full name Surname/s (Ed.), Title of the book (pp. xx-xx). Publisher.

If you wish to add information on the edition number, volume number and/or page numbers, this should appear in brackets after the title, with a full stop after the brackets:

Surname/s, Name and Surname/s, Name (year). Title of the book in italics (edition no., vol. XX, pp. xx-xx). Publisher.

Introductions or forewords:

The name of the prologue writer or the author of the introduction (if different from the editors) will be shown behind their name, in brackets.

Thesis or academic work (available in repositories):

In the case of being unpublished and not available in any repository:

Classical works or works with several editions:

The version being used must be cited/referenced, adding in the final reference list the details of the year of the original work and of the translator (if applicable).

Author’s Surname/s, Name (year of the edition used). Title of the edition used/translated (full name and surname(s) of the translator). Publisher. (Original work published in XXX (indicate year).

Example:

Note: If they are also available online, the DOI or URL must be attached.

In the case of references in English, the date should be cited as follows (YYYYY/MM/DD) and the English conjunction and may be used in the case of multiple authorship, as well as retrieved when the date of consultation is reflected.

If the information is frequently changed, without an archived date or is susceptible to multiple updates, the date of retrieval should be indicated at the end.

If there is no date, the date should be replaced by (n.d.).
