Abstract

At a time when Translation Studies have become a macro-discipline, one of the tasks imposed from the historiographical point of view is to review the past and reclaim the legacy of philologists, a neglected heritage, and one which is at the very core of the discipline. Within this general claim, which seeks to draw attention to the contributions that philologists have made to translation, this contribution will focus on highlighting the facets of a translator, translation theoretician and historian, Valentín García Yebra (1917-2010), forerunner and promoter of Translation Studies in Spain.
