Abstract

This study consists of two parts. In the first part, we intend to analyse the novel Pentolaccia by the Sicilian author Giovanni Verga, from the point of view of its text variants and in the second part we will focus on its first and last Spanish translations: Pucherete by Cipriano Rivas Cherif (1920) and Historia de Ollaza by José Abad Baena (2011). Our aim is to evidence the differences between them, not only from a linguistic but also from a structural point of view. In order to do this, it is essential to emphasize the propaedeutic study of text variants which will provide us with the relevant results to understand the translators’ modus operandi.
