Caurium is one of the Roman cities in Lusitania that has received the least attention from historical or archaeological research, being commonly considered as a community of little relevance, with a markedly indigenous look and that, therefore, did not obtain the municipal statute as a result of the edictum of Latinity by Vespasian. In these pages, analyzing different testimonies, we try to clarify these considerations and we defend that, in light of the available documentation, nothing prevents us from considering that Caurium could indeed benefit from Flavian latinization and, consequently, could actually constitute a municipium iuris Latio.
