Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the literary traits and the symbolic values that ancient authors, especially Roman authors, gave to flowers in general and to mirtle in particular. Later, I will turn to the symbolism of wormwood, much less used in poetry. Finally, I will concentrate on Ovid, because it is in his work where the intentional opposition between one plant and the other is found.
