Influencias del De causis Linguae Latinae de Escalígero en la Minerva del Brocense
Keywords:
J. C. Scaliger, F. Sánchez de las Brozas, De causis Linguae Latinae, Minerva, Gramática latina renacentistaAbstract
This article aims to demonstrate that the work of I.C. Scaliger, De causis linguae Latinae, had a noteworthy influence on Minerva, the work of F. Sanctius. For that, this paper examines and compares the treatises on Latin grammar of these two grammarians, with the purpose of discovering the concrete grammatical questions which reveal a clear and direct influence. There are two principal ways in which the authority of I.C. Scaliger is evidenced: on the one hand, in relation to the general conception of grammatical activity; on the other hand, with regard to grammatical theory itself. And in this last sense, it is patent that F. Sanctius took two basic ideas from I.C. Scaliger: the “simplification” and the “rationalization” of grammar.
