Abstract

This paper analyses the last section of Coriolanus’ legend in Dionysius’ Roman Antiquities. It provides a comprehensive analysis by focusing on the different elements that integrate the scene and identifying the election between different variants in Roman tradition, and the incorporation of themes and motifs from Greek literature. There is a strong tragic-Herodotean perspective that allows Dionysius to create a new interpretation of the old legend.
