Dative [+Human] and ad + Accusative [+Human]: a Genuine Alternation in Latin?

Based on the analysis of three specific syntactic contexts from the perspective of Functional Grammar,the aim of this essay is to demonstrate that the dative [+human] and ad + accusative [+human] constructions were concurrent as equivalent forms of syntactic encoding, even in archaic Latin, to express the semantic functions of Recipient, Experiencer and Beneficiary, represented by both arguments and adjuncts.
