Abstract

Loneliness is revealed as a key concept in Unamuno’s thinking. It appears recurrently throughout his work, in his essays, novels, plays and also in his poems. Unamuno wrote his first poem with the title “Soledad” on October 24th 1910. It was later published in 1911, in his second poetry book, titled Rosario de sonetos líricos. Although this was not his first poem dedicated to Loneliness. Among the drafts of Poesías, we discover a sonnet, unknown until this article. While they apparently have the same shape and title, both sonnets differ substantially in content, depending on the viewpoint of contemplative or agonic Unamuno.
