Abstract

Poetic translation, as a means of aesthetic cognition, will be a significant work developed by José Ángel Valente throughout his life. Several authors from different latitudes will be translated into Spanish as a result of this need to approach like-minded creators. In line with this, Valente will consider Montale’s poetry as a similar aesthetic proposal due to his proximity to the mystical world without giving up its inclination to the matter. Through the poem “El arte pobre” (Valente’s translation of Montale’s “L’arte povera”) we can view an attempt to identify Valente’s aesthetic with the so-called Arte Povera.
