This work aims to provide an analysis of how the figure of Charles V was treated during the Franco dictatorship through the audiovisual media in the 1950’s. For this purpose, a study is carried out of two films, the scripts of which deal either directly or indirectly with the role he had during the War of the Communities (Citizens’ Uprising) and during the childhood of his son, John of Austria. The work subsequently focuses on a series of documentaries and newscasts broadcast between 1958 and 1959 which, depending on the official institutions involved, were produced as part of the acts organised to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the emperor’s death.
