The article presents the formulation of the problem, the theoretical framework, the state of the art and the objectives of a research that is under development in the city of Cali (Colombia). The immediate antecedent of the project is a doctoral work, in which the reading and writing practices of two contrasting groups of subjects (young university students and professional adults) in cyberspace are characterized. The project, which is currently in its data collection phase, intends to delve into some of the findings of this research, by analyzing the impact of the relationship of the subjects (in this case young people) with the written alphabetical culture, in their ways of reading and writing within scenarios such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter. It also seeks to establish comparisons with a work done two decades ago, in order to identify the transformations that have occurred during this time in the configuration of reading and writing youth habits.
