Author Guidelines

The Revista de Estudios Europeos is open to any specialist in contemporary processes of European integration and unification. The papers are accepted on the basis of the interest and scientific quality.

Click on "Submit a paper" to start submitting your paper (either a paper or a review) and follow the instructions. The system will guide you to complete the submission.

In step 3 do not forget to indicate your first and last name and e-mail address, and include the title of the paper, the keywords and the abstracts in Spanish and English. To do this, select the "Spanish" language in the box that will appear at the top of the page and include the data in Spanish; then select the English language in the same box and enter the data in English. You must also fill in the "Affiliation" box, indicating the name and mailing address of your institution and your academic category, as well as your ORCID identification number (if you have one).

In the event that the articles are signed by more than one person, their authors must inform about the criteria chosen regarding the order of signature and about the specific contribution made by each participant. That information should be in a footnote at the beginning of the article. To guarantee anonymity in the evaluation, it must be included after the article has passed the evaluation.

FORMAT AND EDITORIAL STANDARDS

Papers -necessarily unpublished- should be submitted in MS Word. Use the template for articles or the template for reviews, maintaining the format in all aspects (logos, title, abstracts and data, font sizes and types, headings, paragraphs, indented citations, footnotes, final bibliography, headers, footers and page numbers).

The reference citation format shall be Harvard, according to the following examples.

Papers will be approximately 10,000 words in length (Times New Roman 12 point, basic space). An abstract of 150-300 words and five key words should be included. Strictly necessary footnotes will be used.

Short textual quotations (up to three lines long) should be incorporated in quotation marks (with quotation marks: " ") in the body of the text. In the event that a quotation contains another quotation, the quotation marks of the internal quotation will be angle quotes (« »).

Long quotations (more than three lines long) should be indented, single-spaced, without quotation marks and with a font size of 11 points.

References in the text may be made either on the basis of author and year or with footnotes. The final list of references will be in alphabetical order. Authors are requested to ensure consistency between in-text citations and the final list of references. We also remind you that it is compulsory to cite the full name of the authors:

Book citations will follow the following format: Barona Vilar, Silvia (1999). Solución extrajurisidccional de conflictos y derecho procesal. Valencia. Tirant lo Blanch.

Article citations will follow the following format: Molina González, María del Rosario (2010). "Justicia Restaurativa en materia penal: una aproximación". Revista Letras Jurídicas de la Universidad de Guadalajara. 11, 1-20.

Spanish Association of Professors of International Law and International Relations (pp.303-311).

Evaluation

The total evaluation time for submitted articles will be approximately six months. Papers that do not conform to the "Format and Editorial Guidelines" and the way of citing the bibliography indicated on this web page will not be accepted or evaluated.

Papers will be analysed with a plagiarism prevention tool. The journal management may reject papers if it considers that they present plagiarism or a high number of coincidences with other texts.

In order to maintain anonymity in the evaluation, authors are advised to avoid quoting themselves in the first person and not to include data in the article that would allow them to be identified (if the article passes the evaluation, personal data may be added before publication).

Articles that comply with the format and editorial guidelines will be subject to a twofold evaluation process:

Initially, the members of the journal's editorial team and editorial board will make a selection of the works received, assessing whether each article meets the following requirements: 1. The work is strictly in line with the journal's themes (issues related to contemporary processes of European integration and unification); 2. The bibliography is consistently cited and conforms to the standard, and the article has sufficient bibliographical support; 4. It can be evaluated anonymously (as there are no clues to the identity of the author); and 5. It meets the standard required of academic articles, and is not an essayistic or literary article, nor a synthesis of the state of the question it deals with, but constitutes a contribution of interest and real relevance. In this first phase, articles may be assessed as follows: "Passes the first selection" / "Passes the first selection if modifications are made" / "Does not pass the first selection". In the second case ("Passes the first selection if modifications are made"), the authors will have a maximum period of one month to make the suggested modifications.

In a second stage, the articles that have passed the first selection will be evaluated anonymously by two specialists in the corresponding area of knowledge, external to the journal's publishing institution. The external reviewers will fill in an evaluation form in which they will rate (according to the scale: N=not at all / P=poor / S=sufficient / B=sufficient / B=somewhat / M=very much) the following aspects of the article: 1. Originality and scientific interest; 2.Likewise, the persons carrying out the evaluation will have a space on the form in which to make any indications, suggestions or corrections they consider appropriate.

In the case of contradictory reports, the Editorial Board will request a third report.
Papers with two positive reports will be sent to their authors so that they can make any corrections suggested in them. The authors will have a maximum period of one month to return the corrected articles, together with a report indicating the changes made in the light of any suggestions made in the evaluation reports. After assessing this report and any changes made to the article, a final decision will be taken on its publication, which will be communicated to the author. The decision of the Editorial Board is final.

The journal will endeavour to speed up the evaluation process. Authors are requested not to send their article to another journal until the result of the evaluation is known.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text follows the format included as a template in the links "article format" or "review format" which can be downloaded from the "About the journal: Submissions" section.
  • If I am submitting an article, I have made sure, for the anonymous evaluation, that I have not included any data that would allow me to be identified.
  • When submitting an article, in "Step 3. Enter metadata", do not forget to include the title of the article, its keywords and abstract in Spanish and English in the boxes set up to include data in both languages. Do not fill in the "Prefix" and "Subtitle" boxes, and enter the full title of the article in the "Title" box. The keywords must appear in their box separated from each other in different boxes, for which you must press "Enter" on the computer keyboard after typing each of the keywords (if you do not press "Enter" after including each keyword, all the keywords will remain in the same box, and the system and the databases will erroneously interpret them as a single keyword).
  • In the same "Step 3, "Enter metadata", in the section "Authorship and contributors", you must include in the corresponding boxes your name and surname, your e-mail address, the name and country of your institution and a short "Biographical summary" of about 200 words containing the most important details of your academic career and your current professional category. Do not forget to include your ORCID code.
  • The way of citing the bibliography is in accordance with the journal's editorial guidelines.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations (jpg.), figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
