In this paper, we present the European integration process as the result of the economic dynamics of every historical moment. We intend to establish a relationship between the production model, the social relations derived from it and the European integration process as well as the resulting governance model.
We consider that intergovernmentalist approaches, as well as the neo-functionalist, pay little attention the accumulation logics within capitalism as integration path, conditioning its features.
Thereby, we try to understand the logics behind the European integration, those determining the governance model and pulling the ruling structures apart from the citizen participation mechanisms. Through a historical approach we will spotlight the needs of the capitalist model, connecting it with the evolution of the integration process
