Abstract

Between the aspects that usually appear about the European integration, the importance of international key events in the common making policy is often forgotten.  The case of South African apartheid responds to this kind of event, by entering to assess the complex process of European politics for the consolidation of a common response. In this article we assess the confluence between the evolution of the sanctions emanated by the EEC towards apartheid since the mid-eighties in the composition of the new common legislative framework in foreign affairs, consolidated with the signing of the Maastricht treaty in 1992.
