This article focuses on Central European countries and their relationship with the EU. It examines the perceptions of the most relevant political actors towards the EU. It also looks at the most relevant policies for European integration promoted by these countries since they joined the EU in 2004 until 2020. It is explained from a historical perspective, at least partially, how certain perceptions of the past have influenced their discourses and community policies. Thus, one of the most prominent contributions of these countries to EU politics is the security of borders. The political elites focus mainly on the defense of their states against Russia and other "threats" from the East.
