He geopolitical changes, both at the international and regional levels, have led to a paradigm shift regarding the need to accelerate the enlargement of the European Union towards the East, especially towards the Balkans. The Granada Summit, a gathering of European leaders that marked a turning point in the direction of enlargement policy, is a result of this change. Therefore, this article attempts to explain this change in position, a shift that will undoubtedly shape the future of the Union during the next decade
