This article puts forward propositions that seek to explore some of the ongoing political dynamics in the European continent. The first underscores the Russian imperial nexus and the hegemonic pattern perceived in the relationship with its periphery. The second provides a reflection on the impact of Brexit, seen as an historic incongruence with the very British political culture. The third assesses the main objectives of the Strategic Compass and the EU’s alternative for peace. Lastly, the article points to some paradoxes of the current deepening of European integration, makes reference to recent theoretical developments, while bringing up the importance of the European Studies area for the reinterpretation of the current dynamics of Regional integration.
