The Lisbon Treaty established an integrated policy on the environment, energy and climate action. During the last decade the European Union has made significant progress towards sustainable development. However, the economic recovery after the global crisis that began in 2008 has slowed down the rate of achievement of the specific objectives in this area. The new crisis arising from the current pandemic, seems to have pushed the European Union to adopt a more ambitious attitude. The text analyzes whether the European Green Deal and the strategies and plans that have begun to develop it materialize that necessary greater ambition to achieve sustainability.
