Access to information in the context of asset recovery: the fight against organized crime

Organised crime has become one of the major problems in the European Judicial Area, not only when it comes to the commission of serious and violent crimes, but also because of the obtaining of economic benefits that are difficult to recover and that generate serious damage to the economy of the Member States. So far, the policies of EU that crime does not pay have not obtained the expected fruits, hence the new legal instruments, especially Directive 2024/1260, of 24 April, have an impact on access to information as an effective means of identifying and tracing proceeds of crime
