The article analyzes the deployment throughout the Spanish territory of the corps of civil engineers from its re-founding in the 1830s until the crisis of the mid-1860s, with some impact on social life. Focused on the first railway building, it stops to consider the institutions created for its specific monitoring, the Railways Divisions, and singularly on that of Miranda de Ebro and its chief engineer, Manuel Estibaus.
