Giuseppina Torregrossa (Palermo, 1956-) portrays in her first novel, L’Assaggiatrice, the characteristics that linguistically define her native land: Sicily. Using the dialogues of the characters, this writer uses standard Italian, Italian of Sicily and Sicilian in order to give more realism to the plot of the book that can be considered the epitome of her literary production. This technique will allow you to get closer to the audience of the island, although it will involve a series of difficulties when it comes to transferring its contents into Spanish. In this article, special attention is paid to the most complicated aspects that the translator has had to tackle, each of them exemplified in a constrative way.
