This article presents an action research project on developing students’ strategic competence in the first module of Spanish-Vietnamese translation at Hanoi University (Vietnam). To achieve this objective, a model of translation strategic competence was proposed, consisting of three strategies: planning, control and self-evaluation. A set of procedures was defined for each strategy. Subsequently, a pedagogical curriculum was designed and implemented with ten students. During the implementation phase, data on the participants’ improvement and the adequacy of the pedagogical proposal were collected. The results showed, in general, that both aspects were positively assessed by the participants as well as the teacher-researcher.
