Abstract

The objective of this research is to detect the classical influence and its evolution in the epigraphic poetry of the first centuries of Christianity through the expression of rapture as a metaphor for death. Six Christian carmina from Late Antique Hispania have been selected and analysed with the aim of revealing the formulation of this topic, as well as its evolution over the centuries. The results show a mixture of tradition and innovation in the concept and formulation, as it has classical reminiscences that coexist with novel elements of Christian thought.
