The present work deals with the determining influence exerted by the lexical availability project in the Hispanic World for the consolidation of applied linguistics in Spain. So far, the pioneering research in this field had not reached the continuity and expansion that this new investigation provides. In addition, the Andalusian contributions of this project carried out by González Martínez in Cádiz and Mateo García in Almería played a decisive role in this field.
