Varied but modelled: female protagonist’s bodies in current children's and young adult fiction

This thematic study of the body in children's and young adult literature aims to detect enculturating messages in texts. The descriptions of female protagonists in 16 children's and young adult fictions, awarded between 2018 and 2021, have been analyzed. Some findings were noticed: the ways and techniques of the authors to make these descriptions, the salience of some physical features, the typologies of bodies represented, as well as the different attitudes that the protagonists show towards their own bodies and the concept of normality.
