Abstract

The sometimes forced group concept that has been given to some writers of the Spanish Modernism overlooks their eclecticism. The term Generation of `98, defines them more because of their simultaneity, not as a result of uniformity of themes or aesthetics. Although the denomination comes from Azorín, the concept was conceived by Ortega, foreseeing the change that was approaching for the country’s youth, less pessimistic and more European.
